Wah Kee Cuttlefish Kang Kong 华记鱿鱼蕹菜

Image
Mrupupup encountered this dish named 'Cuttlefish Kang Kong'  华记鱿鱼蕹菜  at the Blk 16 Bedok South Hawker Centre #01-193. Never knew this cuttlefish kang kong dish existed in a hawker centre. The dish is special and comes with cuttlefish (fresh and soft), kang kong vegetables, pineapple slices, peanuts, bean sprouts and lots of special sauce (sweet and sour). The cuttlefish kang kong costs $3 per plate and tastes very nice. Mrupupup never had a sweet and sour tasting dish for a long time! This stall has been in operations since the 1980s and it was the first time Mrupupup discovered it! Wah! Watch out for the long queue! The reason for the stall's popularity is due to the use of the fresh ingredients. A simple dish and made well with very fresh ingredients. Mrupupup totally enjoyed the tender cuttlefish, fresh vegetables and nice sauce to go with it all. Yummsss!

Hill Street Fried Kway Teow @ Bedok

Image
Finally, Mrupupup found the famous Hill Street Fried Kway Teow at the Blk 16 Bedok South Hawker Centre #01-187 (after along search). So yummy the Black Fried Kway Teow. Mrupupup ordered $3 plate with chilli. There are other versions at $4 and $5. Anyway, Mrupupup ate up the nice fried kway teow and do take note this plate of fried kway teow had lots of fried pig lard, little green vegetables, eggs, black soya sauce & Chinese sausage to give it an extra ooomph! Do prepare to wait for the stall attracts a long queue. Fried Kway Teow a simple Singaporean noodle dish which taste good and 'helps' to add on the calories to one's life.

Lee Ta Fried Carrot Cake

Image
Lee Ta  Fried  Carrot Cake . 210 Lorong 8 Toa Payoh #01-67. A place whereby Mrupupup goes for fried carrot cake for weekend mornings and only black 'colour fried carrot cake (fried with black soya sauce). The uncle would politely inform you that he would not cook the 'white' version of the carrot cake. This store's carrot cake tasted pretty nice every time Mrupupup orders from the store. Fried carrot cake is a local breakfast favorite.  Fried Carrot Cake  is made with steamed rice flour and white radish,  fried  with egg and garnished with spring onions & garlic.  Mrupupup found it interesting that the store's auntie would use a squash or badminton racquet to make small pieces of carrot cake out of a large piece of carrot cake for the uncle to fry, pretty smart idea! Anyway, the carrot cake (3 pricing - $2/$2.50/$3) would be better if served with a bit of chilli! Yummys!

Red Ring Wanton Mee at Blk 46 Holland Drive

Image
Mrupupup was attracted to a stall that sells wanton mee in a coffeeshop located at Blk 46 Holland Drive. The stall's name was interesting 'Red Ring Wanton Mee'. Guessed the 'red ring' referred to the red colour of the char siew that came along with the noodles. The stall was interesting because the lady said that the wanton mee only came with a special sauce that was spicy, and they did not serve wanton mee with non-spicy sauce, unlike other places where wanton mee could be in sweet black sauce. Anyway, Mrupupup tried the red ring wanton mee ($3 small) portion and tasted unique and nice. The fried wanton (fried dumpling) about two pieces were made on the spot and crispy to the taste. The noodles tasted tangy and nice. The char siew 'red ring' meat was tender. Overall, although the portion was small, tasted good. Good for light meal during lunch time! OK, Mrupupup should eat 'light' at times.

Kacang Puteh Man

Image
Mrupupup met a Kacang Puteh Indian Man at the Middle Road area - in Peace Centre. Kacang Puteh man has a small store to sell various forms of nuts: sugar coated nuts, steamed beans, broad beans, cashew nuts and many types of nuts. The Kacang Puteh Indian Man nowadays is so hard to find. Singapore's vanishing trades of selling Kacang Puteh might be lost in the generations to come. Each packet of Kacang Puteh (nuts) sells for $1 and it is freshly made. Mrupupup bought the sugar coated peanuts for $1. Very nice and taste unique. Missed those days when one would watch a movie with kacang puteh, instead of expensive popocorns.

Kay Lee Roast Meat Shop

Image
Kay Lee Roast Meat Shop sells roasted char siew meat, roasted duck and roast pork. Mrupupup only heard of this shop when it was reported that the owners wanted to sell away their business and the shophouse which the business is located in. Well, if anybody got $2 million to spare, you can try to take over their shop premises and the roasted meats business with secret receipe. If no money, we just have to eat their roasted meats. Kay Lee Roast Meat shop is located at 125 Paya Lebar Road, Singapore. Be prepared to wait for your food as there always a queue for their roast meats. Mrupupup managed to line up and pay for a take away packet and it is not cheap, costs $5 per packet of roast char siew meat with rice (almost double the normal price). Ok, Mrupupup did enjoy the quality of their special black and 'charred' char siew meats and taste very delicious. Enjoy the pictures of Kay Lee Roast Meats.

Selegie Soya Bean

Image
Selegie Soyabean at 1002 Upper Serangoon outlet has a long line of people waiting to buy their soya beancurd, soya bean drink and their snacks. Mrupupup waited for some time to have their soya beancurd and soya bean drink with pearls. Selegie Soyabean has many outlets in Singapore and was establised in 1998. It was worth the wait as their soya bean drink and soya beancurd are very nice. Their soya beancurd melts in your mouth and taste very nice. Their soya bean drink was thick and loved their generous portion of pearls in the drink. Yummzz !!!!

Singapore Food Festival 2012

Image
Yeah! Singapore Food Festival (SFF) 2012 is back and will be on till 22 July 2012. Do check out the SFF village at Marina Bay area (next to Marina Bay Sands). This year the tentage was big and there were many food stores to choose from. Mrupupup took many pictures of the food stalls selling food items like BBQ squid, otah, candy floss, and many more. Mrupupup feasted on the local food dishes offered at the SFF and enjoyed Hokkien mee, satay and BBQ Squid. Mrupupup was very fascinated at how BBQ Squid was cooked and took extra pictures of the process. All the dishes at SFF were very nice. The prices of the food dishes are not cheap as compared to getting these local dishes at the hawker centre. Enjoy the Singapore Food Festival and try out all the local food. Check out the SFF photos and have fun if you happen to go to the SFF village at Marina Bay area.
