Blue Wing Pitta Bird Spotted in Lower Pirerce

Image
Mrupupup felt happy to spot the Blue Wing Pitta Bird in the mangrove area of Lower Pierce Reservoir in Singapore. Think it was the current dry spell in Singapore that allowed Mrupupup to see this beautiful bird.  Blue Wing Pitta Bird is a rare sight in Singapore. Well, you might have notice the circle black background framing the bird picture. The reason was some person came along with a scope which allowed one to see and take good pictures from afar. The scope was very useful on this day. It was a good day and feeling blessed by Mother Nature.

Sembawang Park

Image
Sembawang Park is in the north of Singapore. Mrupupup visited the park and found it very peaceful. Sembawang Park is now undergoing some renovations. Mrupupup found the park very nice because of the Beaulieu House (old style colonial house) located at the park, the jetty and very clean place to hang out or go for a nice walk. The Beaulieu House now serves as a restaurant and is located right in front of the beach. While Mrupupup was at Sembawang Park, people were just relaxing at the beach and breathing the fresh air. You can take bus service 882 from Sembawang MRT station/ bus interchange to go to the park.   Stone Chairs   Future playground under construction      Pine trees     Checking out the Sembawang Shipyard   Sembawang Jetty       Map of the Park   Beaulieu House

MegaBugs Returns! Exhibition at Singapore Science Centre

Image
Mrupupup was fortunate to attend the Megabugs Returns! Exhibtion - all thanks to the Singapore Science Centre. Megabugs Returns! exhibition would bring one into the imaginary world of insects. Mrupupup realised the insects were all larger in size. Mrupupup loved bugs and found the exhibition at the Singapore Science Centre very fascinating. The 'larger than life' insect exhibits were made to be lively with real sounds and movements. Hurry, go to the Singapore Science Centre in Jurong for the Megabugs exhibition, which will end by 12 August 2013. Each entry ticket will allow one to tour the rest of the Singapore Science Centre (got very interesting science exhibits), visit the bugs exhibition, watched a 3D movie on bugs and attend an interesting talk which includes a 'live' hissing bug from Africa & stick insects. Adult ticket costs $20 and for child $15. Mrupupup found the Megabugs Returns! very useful for children and would expose them to the wonders of insects &am

Haze in Singapore June 2013

Image
The month of June & July 2013 was the dry season in Southeast Asia region. With the burning of farmland in Indonesia (Sumatra), Singapore faced a haze that was very high in the PSI Index of between 100-380. The PSI index was recorded at the highest of 371 in June 2013. The air was choking and the smell was bad. Mrupupup faced uncomfortable days out in the open. One could walk a few steps and would be hit by the bad air which caused eyes to tear and choking cough to occur occasionally. Hope the rains come to Singapore to cool the air and bring relief. Gardens by the Bay Singapore - Flight of Fancy! takes off

Mrupupup was invited to a blogger preview of the new programme "Flight of Fancy" at Gardens by the Bay, Singapore. Gardens by the Bay kicks off the June 13 holidays with a brand-new thematic floral display in the cooled conservatories! This is the first time that the changing display, which typically takes place in the “Flower Dome” conservatory, will extend to the “Cloud Forest” conservatory. Entitled “Flight of Fancy” , the colourful display – complete with miniature hot air balloons, airplanes and kites, and dotted with intriguing flight-related facts – will open up the minds of many and bring the entire family on a fun-filled and educational journey of discovery. Find out – Are bats really blind? What plants are pollinated by bats? How do seeds disperse by wind? Which was invented first – the hot air balloon or the airplane? “Flight of Fancy” will be on display from 3 June to 21 July . In conjunction with the June holidays, kids will also enjoy 50% dis

Yishun Dam Singapore

Mrupupup went to enjoy the breeze at Yishun Dam near to Orchid Country Club and Yishun estate. The dam is meant for the fresh water catchment area at Seletar Reservoir. Well, the sky was beautiful and the breeze was great. See the photos. Enjoy the pretty clouds floating in Singapore's sky.

Monkey spotted at Dairy Farm Nature Park

Image
Mrupupup spotted many monkeys in the Dairy Farm Nature Park in Bukit Timah Singapore. The monkeys were energetic and full of playful intent. Mrupupup also spotted a spider among the bushes. Very interesting day to go and look at nature. Very nice Dairy Farm Nature Park.

Pasir Ris Park Singapore

Image
Mrupupup went to Pasir Ris Park in the eastern part of Singapore. Took many pictures and enjoyed the calmness of the park. People were just running, skating, cycling and enjoying the evening breeze. Very nice place! Pasir Ris Park has many creatures to see like big size herons, eagles, crabs, fish and even a horse shoe crab (a prehistoric creature!).This coastal horseshoe crab is not a 'crab' but more related to spider. It is interesting that Singapore is the only place in the world where there is known permanently high density of horseshoe crabs. Fossils of horseshoe crab have been dated to over 400 million years ago and looked almost identical to the species still alive today. Pasir Ris Park is very nice place and enjoyed seeing the trees sway to the strong winds. The low tide on that day allowed to see the creatures along the beach. Nice Pasir Ris Park.
