Gim Hin Lee - For Baking Needs (Bake King)

Image
Mrupupup just happened to be at Haig Road Hawker Centre and saw this shop that sells baking materials. Gim Hin Lee, also branded as Bake King, sells baking supplies. Mrupupup first time entered such a shop which is located at Blk 10 Haig Road near to the hawker centre. Mrupupup saw a wide selection of baking supplies: wedding couple figures those placed onto of a cake, chocolate sauce, mini dinosaurs, chunks of chocolate for cooking, special baking cups, flour and colouring for the cakes. Very interesting place and think would not be too expensive to shop for baking supplies since the shop is located at a HDB void deck. Ok, let's go baking!

Cafe Galilee at Queenstown Library

Image
Mrupupup took some rest at the old Queenstown library at 53 Margaret Drive and had a good rest at Cafe Galilee. Just loved this library for it was quiet and people just came in to have a chat and read books. At Cafe Galilee, Mrupupup ordered their rosemary chicken drumstick (about $7), cup of latte (about $3.80) and their chilled passion fruit orange drink ($5). Mrupupup liked Cafe Galilee for their drinks and one could just sit down and chill out. Their rosemary chicken was not bad and loved the sauce with bits of raisins in it. Mrupupup just want to chill and relax at the good old Queenstown library with a cup of latte and spend my time reading. Cheers !

Traditional Putu Piring at Haig Road

Image
Putu Piring store sells a Malay traditional coconut snack filled with sweet coconut and brown sugar bits (gula melaka). Putu Piring is a steam rice flour cake snack with lots of grated coconut. Mrupupup thought this store had disappeared after the coffeeshop the store originally was at became some provision shop. Mrupupup was happy to find the Putu Piring store at Blk 14 Haig Road hawker centre #01-08. Each packet of 'steamed' Putu Piring costed $2 for about 4-5 pieces. Mrupupup loved the sweet taste of this putu piring dessert snack and the snacks were all handmade by the ladies. Pretty happy and Mrupupup ate up all the pieces in double quick time! Yummss!

Johore Bahru Handmade Pau

Image
There is a pau store at Blk 4 Changi Village Road #01-2082 and named as Johore Bahru Handmade Pau. Think this pau store has been around for a many years and has a few outlets in Singapore. Mrupupup tried out their paus (Chinese made steamed buns). These paus, steamed came with many types of fillings like chicken, pork, red bean or coffee paste. Guessed the unique nature of the Johore Bahru paus were their funny names given to the paus, like 'kung fu' kick pau (filled with chicken filling) and the Hong Kong TV Star 'Amy Yip' Giant paus (very huge steamed paus with pork and egg). Mrupupup liked their char siew pau for their nice taste and packed with lots of char siew pork meat. The coffee paste steamed pau was not bad too. Pretty good snack time from Johore Bahru Pau store, do remember to steam the buns before eating. The steamed buns (paus) range from $1- $3 in price depending on what buns you order. Think Johore Bahru Handmade Pau is 'generous' with their filli

Dempsey Hill is a popular place in Singapore. Dempsey Hill is located near to the Singapore Botanic Gardens. The place is filled with furniture shops, high end restaurants, butchery, brewery, and also arts gallery filled with very nice art pieces. Mrupupup took a few hours to walk around Dempsey Hill and discovered interesting images. Mrupupup even saw a collection of very colourful parrots next to a shop selling carpets. Interesting finds- $0.80 cold coke from Huber's butchery (quite cheap), many types of meats & beers from Huber's butchery and saw a huge fish in the pond in front of the 'Dempsey Hill' sign board, got a durian seller at the side road and a furniture shop that sells wooden chests and many types of wood products. Dempsey Hill is a very interesting place in Singapore. Got  a huge fish in the pond! Linda's Gallery Go West !!! Figures from Linda's Arts Gallery Huge Cow in Huber's Butchery

Wild Olives Western Cuisine at T2 Changi Airport Canteen

Image
Mrupupup just found a cheap place to eat at Changi Airport. One can go to the staff canteen of Changi Airport located at Terminal 2 Changi Airport (open till 9pm daily). Although there are two different pricing for staff and members of public, it was still cheaper then eating at the restaurants in Changi Airport. Mrupupup was really wowed by the pricing of the food stalls in the staff canteen in Terminal 2. Well, Mrupupup decided to try out the Wild Olives Western Cuisine that sells western food like grilled fish, pasta and salads. The stall even sells grilled catfish which was sold out for the day. Mrupupup ordered the pasta with clams ($4.50) and their chicken chop with sides like mushroom rice and salad ($5.80). The two tasted dishes were pretty good, fulfilling (very full stomach!) and it was much cheaper than in the Changi Airport dining area.  Ok, Mrupupup is coming back to this stall to try out their grilled catfish! Yummyssss! Do note the coffee and tea is much cheaper in the T

Lee Ta Fried Carrot Cake

Image
Lee Ta  Fried  Carrot Cake . 210 Lorong 8 Toa Payoh #01-67. A place whereby Mrupupup goes for fried carrot cake for weekend mornings and only black 'colour fried carrot cake (fried with black soya sauce). The uncle would politely inform you that he would not cook the 'white' version of the carrot cake. This store's carrot cake tasted pretty nice every time Mrupupup orders from the store. Fried carrot cake is a local breakfast favorite.  Fried Carrot Cake  is made with steamed rice flour and white radish,  fried  with egg and garnished with spring onions & garlic.  Mrupupup found it interesting that the store's auntie would use a squash or badminton racquet to make small pieces of carrot cake out of a large piece of carrot cake for the uncle to fry, pretty smart idea! Anyway, the carrot cake (3 pricing - $2/$2.50/$3) would be better if served with a bit of chilli! Yummys!
