Over a pot of mussels in a French cafe

On a rainy day, Mrupupup was in a French Cafe having a pot of mussels. The French cafe was small and homely. The shop owners chatted freely with the customers and engaged in polite converations. When the lady shop owner came to Mrupupup, she said 'Bon nuit', how is the food?' Mrupupup replied, 'Tres Bien!'. Mrupupup was a rare overseas asian faced visitor to the lady owner's cafe.

This French cafe was located in the walled city of Saint Malo, at the Britanny region of France. Saint Malo could be described as a beautiful place in France. The walled city of Saint Malo gave it a 'old style' medieval feel of Europe along with the contrasting modern shops and supermarket Carrefour. The people here in Saint Malo were more friendly as compared to the hurried city folks in Paris. As Mrupupup walked on the cobbled streets, the sights and senses made one wonder. Memories returned to Mrupupup of the strong winds from the ocean, the tree stumps along Saint Malo's shore, the taste of nutella filled pastries, the shouting of vendors selling ice cream and the taste of  savoury crepes pancakes. Simply nice, Saint Malo!

Mulling over the pot of mussels, the black pot contained greenish mussels with garlic and delicate smell of white wine. Each piece of mussel was very fresh and the taste intoxicating with wine. Mrupupup finished the pot of mussels very slowly and savoured every bite. Mrupupup never tasted such fresh seafood!

As Mrupupup ate the mussels, the conversations around the cafe were carefree and happy. There were groups of friends and families in the small cafe enjoying the crepes, chocolate desserts and the common sight of a black pot of fresh mussels. Mrupupup felt on this cold and rainy evening, there was a certain sense of warmth in this cafe. There was even a dog that was freely roaming in the cafe. This is cosy Saint Malo for you where the cafe served up nice French dishes in a relaxed environment, totally different from the hustle and bustle of Singapore.

Mrupupup said goodbyes to the owners of the French cafe. Back onto the streets of Saint Malo, the people in the walled city enjoyed the night in the protection of the walls surrounding this city. Mrupupup returned to the hotel and slept soundly. Good night and Au voir!
