Dr Sun Yat Sen (famous revolutionary person in China) has a link to Singapore, as he visited Singapore and stay in this villa. The villa now named Sun Yat Sen Nanyang Memorial Hall is at 2 Tai Gin Road (in Balestier area) near to Ah Hood Road. Built in 1880s, this double storey villa also known as Wan Qing Lodge was bought by a rubber magnate Mr Teo Eng Hock for his aged mother. Mr Teo was a fervent supporter of the Chinese Revoluntionary activities and later offered the villa to Dr Sun Yat Sen for his activities in 1906. Wan Qing Lodge became the Headquarters of the revoluntionary movement in Southeast Asia. The Intan- Peranakan House Museum

Image
Went to visit the Intan - a Peranakan House Museum which holds many personal collections of the Peranakan culture. Peranakan culture is created due to the inter-marriages of Chinese immigrants with Malay or Indian races. Peranakan culture can be found in parts of Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand. The visit to the Intan was complementary for me due to the good folks in History Asia. The Intan is a special museum as it serves as a residence for the owner and private useum to hold all the Peranakan artefacts which are of a high value. The Intan contains many Perankan artefacts on display - beaded shoes, special furniture, exquisite bowls, antiques of high craftmanship and special historical artefacts that are not commonly found in the Perankan culture. The Intan Peranakan Museum is located at 69 Joo Chiat Terrace, Singapore, and needs special permission from the owner to visit the place. Its ok, I took some photographs of the Intan for your viewing pleasure.

Dreams and Reality: Masterpieces of Painting, Drawing and Photography from the Musée d’Orsay (Paris) exhibition

Image
Attended the National Museum of Singapore's exhibition 'Titled Dreams and Reality: Masterpieces of Painting, Drawing and Photography from the Musée d’Orsay, Paris'. The exhibition showcases through paintings and old photographs the reaction of human kind towards modernity from 1848 to 1914. From the collection of the world renowned Musée d’Orsay (Museum in Paris), over 100 paintings, photographs and drawings from the mid-19th century to the early 20th century were exhibited in the National Museum of Singapore. I love Singapore's Museum! I love Vincent van Gogh’s painting 'Starry Night 'below - very nice and beautiful. The other paintings in this exhibition - enjoy if you like paintings and maybe you are from Europe and visiting this blog.
