Haze in Singapore June 2013

Image
The month of June & July 2013 was the dry season in Southeast Asia region. With the burning of farmland in Indonesia (Sumatra), Singapore faced a haze that was very high in the PSI Index of between 100-380. The PSI index was recorded at the highest of 371 in June 2013. The air was choking and the smell was bad. Mrupupup faced uncomfortable days out in the open. One could walk a few steps and would be hit by the bad air which caused eyes to tear and choking cough to occur occasionally. Hope the rains come to Singapore to cool the air and bring relief. Fullerton Hotel Singapore: A Heritage Trail

Image
Over the weekend, Mrupupup went on a heritage trail held in the Fullerton Hotel Singapore. This hotel is unique and used to be Singapore's General Post Office in the early days, right now it is a high class hotel. The Guide took us around to see the Fullerton Hotel and told us of its glory days as a location for the rich and famous. Very interesting heritage tour and Mrupupup learnt a bit more of the Fullerton Hotel Singapore. Thank you National Library Board for the invitation to the Heritage Trail of Fullerton Hotel. Memories to file in the Singapore Memory Portal. Singapore Philatelic Museum

Image
Mrupupup visited the Singapore Philatelic Museum along the Hill Street area in Singapore (at 23 B Coleman Street). This museum stores all sorts of stamps used in Asia and Singapore. Mrupupup liked this museum for the place gives one a sense of history through viewing the stamps. Entry fee costs $5 for one to see all the history of stamps in Singapore and very valuable stamp collections. Currently, the museum is exhibiting a collection of stamps from Thailand. Do visit the Singapore Philatelic Museum, although it is in a small 19th century building, the stamps are worth taking a closer look.

Rocket at Upper Seletar Reservoir

Image
Mrupupup saw a Rocket in Singapore! The Rocket is at Upper Seletar Reservoir! Actually, this Rocket structure oversees the whole of Upper Seletar Reservoir catchment area and you can also see glimpses of the Singapore Zoo nearby. Mrupupup managed to climb to the top of the rocket and capture a 360 view & video of the Upper Seletar Reservoir. This reservoir was built in the 1940. The Japanese War in 1941 destroyed the reservoir but was subsequently repaired. The originally named Seletar Reservoir was rebuilt in the 1960s and enlarged by 35 times. It was opened officially in 1969 by Princess Alexandra who represented the Queen of England for the 150th anniversary to celebrate Singapore as England's trading post. This Rocket was like a fantasy and climbing up the spiral gives Mrupupup a feeling of getting ready to blast off into space. Indeed, the Rocket tower served as heritage site for Singapore and bears memories of the good times people had when they were in the Seletar Reserv
